In response to over 15,000 hand-raisers and growing, MINI USA is pleased to announce that consumers can now place their order for the all-new battery electric MINI Cooper SE at the MINI Electric page on MINIUSA.com or at ShopMINIUSA.com. The 2020 MINI Cooper SE will reach U.S. showrooms in early March of 2020 with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $29,900 plus an additional $850 Destination & Handling fee. “On the emotional side, “fun to drive” is the number one reason why consumers purchase a MINI, and this new MINI Electric offers the same fun-to-drive, go-kart reflexes we’ve built into our MINI Cooper S hardtop.”, said Michael Peyton, Vice President, MINI of the Americas. “On the rational side, 80% of all MINI house-holds own two or more cars, and with an accessible price, the MINI Electric is a perfect complement in offering more customers attainable, emission-free driving.” more The Cooper SE makes electric mobility more “MINI” by maintaining authentic attributes of design, handling, and fun that are found in every MINI model. Power and Performance With a low center of gravity, a powerful electric powertrain, and dynamic handling, the MINI Cooper SE is a true performance car that retains all the fun-to-drive attributes MINI owners have come to know and love. The front wheel drive electric motor generates 181hp and 199 lb.-ft. of torque enabling the new MINI Cooper SE to go from 0 – 60 mph in 6.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 93 mph. Attainable Electric Mobility While the MINI Cooper SE has an MSRP of $29,900, the federal EV credit of $7,500 along with available state EV incentives make the MINI Cooper SE even more attractive. In some cases, qualified consumers can get a MINI Cooper SE below $20,000. Examples of some state EV incentives include; • CO – offers $4,000 (as of 2020) • CA - offers $2,000 plus an additional $2,500 based on income qualifications • DE - offers $3,500 • MD - offers $3,000 • OR - offers $2,500 • NJ - Car is exempt form 7% sales tax on new vehicle purchases There are also a number of states that offer $1,500 - $1,700 in credits, along with some states that offer additional benefits such as access to HOV lanes. The value equation goes up more when one factors in fuel savings on top of federal and state incentives. To celebrate the launch of the MINI brand’s battery electric MINI Cooper SE that will come March 2020 as a major milestone in offering sustainable urban mobility, today MINI showcased their focus in design, entrepreneurs and the future of urban living in a series of initiatives that reflect the brand’s approach to innovation. These include new installations at the brand’s innovation and design hub, A/D/O, the introduction of its co-living initiative MINI LIVING with the first hub opening in Shanghai in April 2020, and their latest cohort of startups backed by the MINI-founded urban-tech accelerator, URBAN-X. The first Mini was designed by Sir Alec Issigonis, who was tasked to create a smaller and more fuel-efficient car in response to the 1956 Suez Fuel crisis. At Issigonis’ Amalgamated Drawing Office (ADO), functioning prototypes and an official drawing office project number – ADO15 – were ready the following year, and the first Mini launched in 1959. The design, intended as a solution for efficient urban mobility, went on to become the best-selling British car in history. Inspired by Sir Alec’s inventive spirit, MINI continues to invest in design, entrepreneurs, urban life and new products like the MINI Electric that can create a brighter future. more New Installations at A/D/O Inspired by the MINI Electric Today, A/D/O by MINI, a global network and platform for emerging designers headquartered in their interdisciplinary public space in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, debuted two new exhibits to celebrate the 2020 launch of the MINI Electric Vehicle. Dutch designers Random Studio will showcase Perpetuum, an installation that looks at the ways we navigate our rapidly changing urban environment. Inspired by a meditative sense of travel and architectural abstraction, the kinetic and sonic piece creates moments reminiscent of a moving urban landscape as seen through the tinted window of a car. The installation is positioned inside A/D/O, beneath and in dialogue with the building’s prism-shaped periscope that reflects light into the space and provides fragmented views of the surrounding Brooklyn and Manhattan skylines. Additionally, Fernando Mastrangelo's In Good Company, a platform for emerging designers, has commissioned and co-curated with A/D/O, Glow Up, an exhibition of six new works focused on the exploration of the urban landscape. Taking over the inner courtyard at A/D/O, Amanda Richards, Marco Piscitelli, Bailey Fontaine, Gregory Beaso, Arcana, Nick Missel, and Ian Cochran, have each created a light work that is suspended throughout the outdoor space. MINI LIVING went on to showcase a number of visionary concepts by the world’s leading designers commissioned to propose concepts that improve quality of life through shared, collaborative living and working in our increasingly densely populated cities. Looking ahead to 2020, these explorations paved the way for the launch of the brand’s first co-living hub, based in Shanghai. Opening in the city’s oldest paint factory in April 2020, MINI LIVING Shanghai will span across six buildings in an 82,000 sq. ft. multi-layered co-living space, including 40 apartments, shared communal and work spaces, culinary offerings, design concept stores as well as dynamic cultural programming curated by A/D/O. The design was developed in cooperation with London-based architecture and interiors firm Universal Design Studio. A 4-cylinder engine designed for maximum performance and based on motor racing expertise delivers the power required for the thrilling performance characteristics of the new MINI John Cooper Works GP. The 2.0-litre engine features the latest generation of MINI TwinPower Turbo technology as well as numerous precisely modified details that set it apart from the engine of the MINI John Cooper Works. Model-specific modifications include a reinforced crankshaft with enlarged main bearing diameter, specific pistons, bushless connecting rods and a new torsional vibration damper with optimised cooling. In addition, the extreme performance of the 4-cylinder engine is achieved by means of a newly developed turbocharger. It is integrated into the exhaust manifold and fitted with a divert-air valve that helps optimise its response. The compression ratio of the engine in the MINI John Cooper Works has been reduced from 10.2 to 9.5 in line with the increased boost pressure as provided by the system. The intake air duct has also been newly developed. Enlarged inlet and flow cross-sections and the increased volume of the noise damper ensure maximum dethrottling. In addition, the latest generation of petrol direct injection is conducive to spontaneous power development. Its new multi-hole injectors, arranged centrally between the valves, are able to cope with an increased flow rate, transporting the fuel into the combustion chambers at an injection pressure of up to 350 bar. The fine atomisation enables precise metering of the fuel and in addition to optimised efficiency also results in particularly clean combustion. MINI TwinPower Turbo technology also includes fully variable valve control based on VALVETRONIC as patented by the BMW Group and variable camshaft control on the intake and exhaust sides (double VANOS). In addition, the new MINI John Cooper Works GP features a model-specific engine oil sump with increased volume and a distinctive geometry. This ensures a reliable oil supply at all times, even during extremely sporty driving involving high levels of longitudinal and lateral acceleration. Spontaneous power delivery, unbridled forward thrust. The extensive modifications to the basic engine and to the MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology result in a particularly spontaneous response to every movement of the accelerator pedal as well as continuous development of power up into the high engine speed range. The 4-cylinder engine develops its maximum torque of 450 Nm at a speed of 1 750 rpm, maintaining this torque up into the 4 500 rpm range. The maximum output of 225 kW/306 hp is available between 5 000 and 6 250 rpm. The resulting pulling power can be used for exceptionally spirited acceleration manoeuvres. The new MINI John Cooper Works GP sprints from a standing start to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds. Thanks to the high elasticity of its engine, it is also capable of leaving higher-category sports cars behind on intermediate sprints. There is no artificial limit to the vehement forward thrust of the new MINI John Cooper Works GP – even at higher speeds. The top speed is 265 km/h. Model-specific exhaust system generates an emotionally powerful sound. The spontaneous development of power and the unbridled revving of the engine are underscored by the emotionally striking sound production of the exhaust system, which was developed specifically for the model. The drive acoustics authentically express the outstanding performance characteristics of the new MINI John Cooper Works GP. When driving in a relaxed manner in the low engine speed range the car produces a restrained, sonorous sound. Under full load, spirited power development is supported by the low exhaust back pressure and accompanied by a sound that is inspired by motor racing. This acoustic accentuation of the car’s extremely sporty character additionally contributes to the performance experience for driver and passenger. The straight pipe ducting of the exhaust system leads into a particularly large rear silencer with a specific interior design. From there, two tailpipes with matt brushed stainless steel trim and a diameter of 90 millimetres each branch off centrally into the rear apron. These also provide an authentic visual showcase for the purist character of the drive technology, which is geared towards maximum performance. One of the features which optimise the exhaust system’s emission response is a petrol engine particulate filter. The temperature management requirements this involves are met by a cooling concept developed especially for the new MINI John Cooper Works GP based on racing expertise. Two external coolant coolers for the high-temperature circuit, a model-specific expansion tank with increased volume, an specifically designed coolant module storage system and an electric fan with increased output ensure that the engine maintains its optimum operating temperature at all times – even under high loads and with an extremely sporty driving style. The crankcase cooling system can be temporarily shut off by means of a new split-cooling valve to optimise the engine's warm-up response.
